This above images are from a large box print I made. I cut it into post card size pieces and applied gold leaf to the areas of plain paper. I like the textures and colours like aged layes of peeling paint, with lines from the boxes combined with the gold which is like sunlight on a building or the patina of a copper roof. As the original image is cut and rearranged it becomes totally abstract and is quite a move away from the original print.

Im thinking about alternative ways to display the prints I've been making. Rather than being flat, Id like to add a 3D element and to give a physical structure to the images. To give a feeling of different view points as you would experience if you were walking around a town. Im inspired by the different angles of the viaduct from the photos I took on my visit and from its criss cross/ zig zag structure. will this process further abstract the work or will it make it more like the structures its inspired by? My vision becomes quite muddy after a while as obviously I know what it is I'm trying to give an impression, feeling of, I'm interested in how a structure can become abstract depending on where you view it from. Its useful at this point to ask people what they see when they look at what I'm working on |

I tried the folded presentation with the small post card size images. It is totally abstract since its been cut and rearranged, however putting it back into a row type structure reminds me again of a row of houses now because it stands in a physical form with corners of buildings jutting out and folding in. |

Below are some images of a number of box prints, stuck together with concertina fold.
Its a mock up, so I haven't used my best prints, just to see what it looks like.
I like that it gives depth to the image and there is a lot more squeezed in, giving the impression of a busier street with the angles and lines of buildings structure.I also considered the colours of the prints and lined them in order that the colour blends together in the line. However, I think it distracts from the simple form of the prints, some of the texture, nuance and stillness that I love about those prints gets lost in this presentation. Its maybe too busy.

The below images are photographs I took at an exhibition at Nottingham castle last year. It was a graphic/ illustrative exhibition on the subject of protest, with a mixture of historical protests represented. What stuck with me was the curation and presentation of the works, particularly the concertina way some of the works were presented as well as work hung like flags from the celling. I like how it adds an extra dimension and physicality to the works that could have easily been presented flat and framed. In keeping with the theme of the exhibition, it was about protests so the works and the words became a physical presence in the room rather that passive, flat images
I want to apply this idea to the way I think about displaying my own work and if I can add to the message/ theme/ feeling of what I am trying to communicate when presenting work for exhibition.
