Artist research: Maki Hino

I follow this artist, Maki Hino, on instagram

It's a very Illustrative work. The main thing that interests me about this is the paper cut aspect and how the elements are positioned at a distance from the canvass to create shadows that add an extra, natural level of texture to the work.

I also love how the characters are also their surroundings. With landscapes and creatures drawn into their clothes and hair.There is so much visual information in these apparently simple figures and a magical, childlike atmosphere. I find it relevant to my project as I'm looking at portraits of humans and a way of capturing that otherness within a portrait, something that is beyond a recreation and gives insight to the mood, personality, history of a person.

I also interested in the concept of shadows as a physical thing and a psychological thing.
