Tattoo art/ culture has a long history and heritage rich in symbolism. I have a few tattoos myself and am interested in how would I represent this aspect in a self portrait?
I'm interested in the permanence and fragility of tattoos and recreating a living canvas.
Tattoo apprentices will often practice on the skin of fruit before practicing on real humans. I hear grapefruit and honeydew melons are good.
Stick and poke is an older / DIY method of tattooing that doesn't require a machine. I have brought some sterile tattoo needles and ink online so will experiment with tattooing fruit as part of my exploration into alternative self portraiture
I think initially doing some life drawings tattoos starting with a sketch of a hand and a sketch of a woman...
