After reaching the decision to go with the worker ant theme and the decision to use vintage plates as a canvass.
I chose six plates from my collection that I thought would work well together, mainly for their design and space to take and image also a complimentary colour palette.
Whilst arranging the plates to photograph, I turned a few over to photograph the makers marks when the idea came to me how i could encompasses all the images and aspects I've been working on...
I will have images of worker ant's, on the underside of three plates symbolising the workers behind the scenes and also exposing the makers marks of the plates that find fascinating and also is an aspect of hidden labour. I will have three plates face up, on these I will have the image of Byron and Lady Lamb that I've been working on I will also have an image taken from a photo of a detail of a suit of armour in the house that say "Kingdom of heaven" to symbolises fame and religion, privilege and war, all things that seem to make some people feel above others.
Upstairs downstairs.
None of the vintage plates are plain white so aesthetically the willow pattern will look too busy and too false on top of these already patterned plates.
I don't want to use new, white plates as it's important to me to use these plates as they are personal, symbolic objects that link me to. the location, I also want to make something that fits the historical aspect of the location so I've decided to use gold leaf to depict the images, visually it will match the design of the plate and it is a symbol of wealth so to use it over all the images on the plates will hopefully suggest both equality and value.
