Photography studio

Julian helped me to photograph my finished plates in a professional set up with studio light and a digital camera. Experimenting with lights and angles was important to photograph the reflective quality of the gold.

I have edited my favourite shots here.

I didn't shoot the whole set of plates together as I was still waiting for more plate stands to arrive, plus they would have been crowded in this space.

I wanted individual shots of each one.

I did however play around with the series of ant plates and am really pleased with the way they react with each other. The scale is slightly different on each one and gives the impression of the ant moving across the plates.

A  few shots with the pot I used for the excess gold leaf. I had this pot on my desk as I was going to sketch it but instead used it to keep the small bits of gold that I dusted from the plates. It's just a lovely little object and enjoyed photographing it with the plates, a kind of glamorous work in progress shot. I didn't display it with the final instalation as it was too busy and didn't really add to it but I love it as an image and part of the process.
