Inspired by Linda Florence's "Sugar Dance" installation at V & A.
whilst looking for a more subtle material to use on my plate I made a stencil of my ant and dusted the outline onto my plate in icing sugar.
The effect is subtle and a substance you would expect to find on such a dainty plate, its feminine, yet the subject is far from appetising.
Sugar as a material suggests both links to the sugar trade, also the traditional female role of mother/ wife preparing sweet treats for the family, outlining the sweet toothed, female worker ant.
It works well with the theme however, I'm concerned that even with adhesive it won't be durable enough to be effective for the duration of the installation also I think its just too closely inspired by sugar dance and I should be more experimental in my approach.
