Idea notes
I'm halfway though this project now, so its time to really organise my ideas and choose a direction to follow to create a final outcome. In truth I have found the scope for this project very wide and have sparked off ideas in many directions, as its a short project I think in retrospect I needed to reign it in a lot sooner and choose a direction but I find decisions hard as there are a few directions I think are worth pursuing. I've been doing a lot of life drawing and developing those images into decorative designs and objects. I've also been looking at anatomy and abstraction and the visual aspect of the Rorschach tests and how other artists have interpreted it. another idea was a more personal, sentimental look at memories and identity. Its a project I want to pursue but feel I've left it too late to explore it fully so I've decided to put that on the back burner and follow the path of decorative/ and abstract design as a result of life drawing and anatomy study. I've done a few lino prints, Id like to explore this further as I'm inspired to use lino print to its full advantage re making multiples and seeing how the language of an image is changed by repeating it. In terms of subject, so far my research has been mainly on the physical aspect of humanity and very bodily. I'm interested in the use of layers to portray different aspects of humanity and also the idea of symbolism within anatomy, for example a heart is representing of love and feelings, the stomach is reprinting of our gut instinct and intuition, so bringing the physical aspects in line with a more elusive aspect of feelings and spirit. I'm also toying with the idea of adding a musical element to my work, weather that's an interpretation of a song or an original composition. with the thought of music being something that affects our body and causes not only feeling but physical changes. And thinking of the physical aspect of the human voice as a tool of communication but also as a unique thing we have that forms part of our identity, a person may be recognised by their voice as easily as by their body. I like the idea of making an instillation that encompasses the sense of being human rather than just a visual work. |
