Close up of base layer I mixed the paint colour in small quantities as I went along, this made for colour variations which is a feature that I wanted in the design. This is something hand made and though I wanted to keep it uniform to an extent, it was all printed and colours all mixed by eye, nothing measured, this is part of its natural variation. Human error. |

The curtain is about 7ft long so was challenging to set up with enough space to lay it all out and also to comfortably reach all areas to hand press. I got quite a nice rhythm going once I'd set it out. I needed to do it in my own space rather than print room as it couldn't be moved whole drying so as not to smudge the prints. And it took a few days to complete. |

Close up in progress. I like how the base print in pink has lighter patches in places, gives a feeling of trancluceny and texture. The general variations that make it uniform AND unique. The simple, meditative enjoyment of repetitive practice. I've been told I must be very patient to work in this way. I find this bit the most enjoyable part. Of having an idea and direction and the manual work of bringing it into reality. |

Aside from the carving time and test prints it took me around 16 hours to hand print this ready made curtain with my two block lino design.
