Lace Places Exhibition @Newstead

Putting the exhibition in place

I never directly been involved with curating and exhibition so this was a valuable experience for me as an artist. There are many things to consider when exhibiting a variety of works by a variety of artists together. The theme was the global reach of lace Nottingham lace in general we are all created works both individually and a lot the first years created joined works was quite a small space that are really nice wipe clean space that we had with natural daylight to exhibit I'll work we had four plinths display boxes plus lots of wall space quite difficult to create a flow most of the Works had pale colours which seems to flow well together some of the works in darker colours harder to fit in and find a place the practical issues of fixtures and fittings of using step ladders drilling into walls what is an historical Grade II listed building however we did have permission to hang on the walls and nothing to evasive obviously .there's a lot of collaboration involved in putting up an exhibition everyone needs to be happy or at least not terribly unhappy with where their work is placed some people were more involved in theirs and I don't think we would have all fitted in the room at the same time too many cooks spoil the broth etc however the people who would their helped and certain areas and we all conferred and gave advice on how the final exhibition should should be it was a good experience and I feel that we all contributed in Waze and came to make the best of the space I'm a beta of the idea to make a comments book so the members of the public could put their comments in for us to read that was also positive experience that we're not too many specific comments related to the work just in general things that people have enjoyed it would have been nice to have a bit more detail I was happy when I work with particularly likes the tapestry the large tapestry of the fireplace and the colours within the other works that well next to it regards to the cyanotype tapestry on a that was displayed next to the cyanotype prints the first years of made and it's really really nice and then it went into the corner with the hoop tapestries and Black cross stitch I liked how they were displayed into the corner spreading out I think that particular area look really good some of the larger works displayed in the plinth such as moretus wire sculpture and Chris's and jacquard punch card sculpture and Lizzie's handmade lace collar I look really good it gave them a special place the mixed works together they were the Lace plaster cast powder inside a plinth but they would have particularly nice as well then looks like Anthony historical artefacts general it was a positive experience and I was glad to be a part of it
