Exhibition set up at Erewash Museum

We set up the exhibition at Erewash museum on Monday morning. Its a square shaped white room with a free standing glass display cabinet. the room has two beautiful old sash windows with a view out past the town into the surrounding countryside.

the curation  was a collaborative effort from the practical considerations of  fixtures, fittings and hanging the works and fitting everything comfortably and coherently into the space to the more creative decisions of what works to display together to give a flow throughout the space.

It was a really nice team atmosphere and the end result looks really good. it flows well in terms of colour, subject matter and thanks to my talented class mates we have an exhibition of diverse interesting work on the theme of structure.

I have 3 pieces in the exhibition the first piece is the set of 3 framed box prints, they have been displayed on the wall in block. I understand that space was a big consideration so a compromise was necessary as to not take up too much space or interrupt the flow of the room. It looks fine displayed this way but I think if it was displayed in a long continuous line, as was my intention when making and framing the work it would have better given the impression of a row of buildings that I was trying to create.

My second piece of work is the box print with the Erewash valley map printed over the top with lino and embellished with gold leaf, this was displayed near my other prints with Marita's work in between. The colours and shapes of our works worked well and complimented each other along with |Lydia's pair of framed lino prints on the other side. the colour are muted and pastel and quite gentle so the whole wall works really nicely, the works are all different from each other but flow very nicely in terms of colour and size.

My third piece of work is the concertina sculpture I made from sections or print work and gold leaf .

This was displayed in the cabinet along with other treasures. Charlottes cartons and Kayleigh's ceramic sculptures, again all worked nicely in terms of colour and all the pieces in the cabinet  created a museum/ treasure type feeling. A lot of the work in there are quite abstract, delicate or precious looking. As we are displaying in a museum it was nice to have this museum type element within our exhibition.
