A beautiful day at YSP gave me the opportunity not only look at lots of art but also to gather some organic materials. Raw lambs wool was in clumps all across the fields. The new born lamb making for a perfect rural springtime location.
I gathered matching branches that resemble antlers as well as some larger branches.
"Circle of animals " by Ai Weiwei is a circular sculpture made up of 12 bronze animal heads that represent the Chinese zodiac.
It 's impressive, standing in the center of the sculpture feels like taking part in a ritual, its set up like a sacred space. I was attracted to this work because as grand and perfectly executed as it is, it holds a lot of animalistic elements that feature in so much folk lore. The zodiac again being a mystic, ancient belief.
I really like alter like effect and that you can interact with it in an outdoor space.
I know Weiwei makes lots of political reference in his work often by using traditional Chinese symbolism/ historic objects. such as the work with the antique vases or multiple of sunflower seeds.

Im familiar with Sophie Ryders work so was keen to see one of her huge hare sculptures here. This one was made with a gap in the structure that the artist intended for the viewer to be able to walk inside, again giving a ritualistic feel to its purpose. a huge lady hare as a totem or eels like some alternative idol. unfortunately the sculpture is now fenced off so viewers are not able to walk inside it.
