I've looked at many aspects of folk art and folklore and it's a huge and varied subject.
The main conclusion is culturally folklore has many similarities world wide wich is a reflection of human nature and human society.
Moving forward I have felt quite stuck and unsure how to proceed. I have followed many threads of possibly and I have been down many rabbit holes with my research, its such a vast area of interest that can never be exhausted. However I hit a bit of a wall over the easter break. Amid the celebration of spring with its roots so deep in folk lore and pagan believes.
But where do I go with this now and what art can I make?
So really the question is why am I doing this and what am I hoping to express?
I think folk Lore for me is a longing for something that never was. Rose tinted glasses of a past that seems so simple and wholesome and meaningful. A mixture of fantasy with fact and a deep knowlege of the land and the seasons.
I think with our advance in science and technology folklore is seen as a naive simplistic way of viewing the world.
However the revival in folk activities seemed to be centered around nature and inclusively. It is not a religion so there is freedom of belief and its very much about forging a deeper connection to nature and community and enjoying the benefits of ritual without the weight of religion.
Folk is about the people.Ornanary people and the oral tradition of passing on knowledge through song, stories and objects. Folk was often about rebellion and revelry as well as work and celebration of the season.
What do I want to say?
It's all made up..make up your own customs.
