Lino block from grave rubbings

A carved stone is similar to a print block as its working in relief. I made direct copies from the graffiti rubbings to transfer the images onto lino to carve. I chose a decorative embellishment and also the name 'Mary' lifted direct from a headstone.

Above are the two original graphite rubbings.

Original headstone.

Carved lino blocks above.

Above are direct rubbings from the lino block. Oil pastel on medium gauge paper.

Above is a rubbing if the lino block.
It's in reverse as its a direct rubbing but when used for its intended purpose to print ,it will be the correct way. I like being able to experiment with the word running both ways.

, I prefer  for this project to keep to the graphite rubbings, maybe making a lino block with the intention for graphite rubbing. A lot of this project has been about collecting direct traces.
