Sculptor, letter cutter and type face designer Eric Gill.1882-1940.
I'm partially interested in his work carving gravestones and making religious statues and caving's.
His work as a crafts person is quite a contrast to his artistic endeavours. there is a direct split in personality of his work and religion vs his art and his rumoured deviant sexuality.
Between sobering, traditional images of Jesus, to the naked virgin Marys, to the basically pornographic carvings that he made privately. I've added his work as its direct link with churches, though working at a later period to the graves I have been looking at. He also studied calligraphy and designed typefaces that where used on gravestone and beyond.
