Unicorn and lion lino

the unicorn is a creature of fantasy and ties in with the belief aspect of religion and the virginal maiden symbol with st Mary the virgin.  Mother/ wife.

Sketch development

Double mirror image design
Traced and ready to be transferred to lino block.

Graphite on Japanese rice paper- This paper is light yet very strong with a similar texture to cotton and takes prints really well

Graphite rubbing on cotton, test print

Graphite rubbings of the lino blocks on cotton. This effect is similar to the apron except the source is made by myself  linked back in with the site. Its more subtle than ink prints I really like this. Plus its very simple to reproduce, easier and cleaner than with ink, bit less enduring. For this project I like that it is fragile and temporary, like a relic or historic object, needs to be treated with care. this is a faint, understated mark.
Graphite on cotton. Red ink hand pained to the crown

I like that you can see the carved marks in the print, adds texture like its been lifted from a stone or wood carving.
These two( above and below) are printed with black lino ink.
