Mayday celebrations @Laxton

I have been looking for an actual local, traditional folk celebration. May day/ Beltane is the height of the  folk calender. A tradition celebration its 100th year is dancing up the sunrise on the first day of May. I found a few of these event near by but chose this one at Laxton organised by local morris side the rattlejag morris in a medemal village as the celebrations take place on top of Castle Hill the foundations of an old castle felt like it would be most authentic/ rural setting

I woke up at 3am in rder to collect my friend and make the hour drive to Laton. we parked up near the chruch and walked through the farm land, following the morris dancers that were gathering for the celebrations to the mound.

There was arun 70 peole altohether. two morris sides , musicans includedd bass drum, basoon, mandolin, flue and accordion.

there were also peol making food on a bbq and hot drinks for a small donation. It was wonderful because ita wsa all local people doing it for the fun, tradionton, community and such a wonderful feeling f celbation and the early morning magic of watching the sub rise, obvisy welcoming in the summer in englad involde rain and a rainbow and quing for a bacon cob ( vegan opution too) felt so british.

there was singing lots of dances and an oppertunity to join in on the last dance wher they handed out rattles and gave us a quick run through of the moves
